An enjoyable drink with several variations in accordance with different tastes. Here is one method that makes an ideal drink for when the weather turns a little chilly and you need a quick pick-me-up.
Ingredients
- 500 ml / 17 fl oz hot coffee
- 25 ml 7/8 fl oz Irish whiskey
- Brown sugar (preferred)
- Double or heavy cream
- Hot water
- Chocolate (optional)

- 2Whip the cream. Pour the cream into a jug or bowl and lightly whip. The cream is ready when it becomes smooth and doesn't drip off the spoon.- If you wish, add two tablespoons of white sugar to the cream to help improve its consistency and flavor.
 
- 3Heat the glass. To prevent the glass from cracking, heat it by holding over some steaming water for a few seconds.- Leave the mixing spoon in the glass as this will aid to absorb some of the coffee heat if the glass is thick.
 
- 4Sweeten the coffee. In each of your glasses, add about a tablespoon (15 ml) of brown sugar.
- 5Pour a measure of the whiskey into the glass. Mix.
- 6Add the coffee to about a 1/2 inch (15 mm) from the top of the glass. Stir the sugar and whiskey mix as you go.- Don't forget to leave room for the cream.
 
- 7Fill the remainder of the glass with the cream. Spoon some of the whipped cream over the hot coffee.- Don't mix it in, it should float on top.
 
- 8Serve. Although optional, it can be extra delicious to top off the Irish coffee with a favorite chocolate.
